Lost
approximately 4 inches square Limited Edition Giclee Prints Not Available UNAVAILABLE - Private Collector Lost marks the start of my Ancient Textile collection. These images allude to the parchment of maps and to the structure of fabric, highlighting how these materials decay over time. Here the figure is defined by the torn slice, emerging ghost-like from the pale ground. |
Forgotten was created as a study for Into the Unknown. The image is divided into three sections alluding to the idea that perhaps this piece of paper was once folded like a map. The weave serves to patch the worn out folded areas of the artwork.
Into the Unknown is a study of the effects of nature and time on paper and fabric as it slowly deteriorates. I wanted to create the effects seen in ancient textiles that have been discovered after centuries of burial. The edges are worn, the weave is extremely fragile and tattered beyond repair including tiny areas that are no longer connected to the whole. The figures themselves appear to be worn out; three weary travelers fading into obscurity as they journey towards a distant land.
